Looking Ahead: Metropolitan Police

Neil Baker provides an update ahead of the visit of Metropolitan Police on Saturday.

21/07/17

We continue our pre-season campaign with a tough game against Isthmian Premier League Met Police, who have made a number of signings this season and who I think will have a much better season than they did last year - and could potentially be knocking on the door for the play-offs.

We have a lot of time for their manager Jim Cooper and we are delighted to host them after a number of years of them hosting myself and Jon's teams.

In terms of squad news we are very light for the game, however this will enable a number of players to get 90 minutes under their belts.

We will be missing Jack Turner, George Wells, Mark Nisbet and James Dobson who are all away this weekend, however with the exception of Dobbo all will be back for the game at Uxbridge on Tuesday.

We also miss Lee Togwell who gets married on Saturday, and we wish him and his future wife a wonderful day and honeymoon.

Guy Hollis returns from his holiday at 11am on Saturday morning into Gatwick Airport, and it is hoped that he will get along to play his first minutes in pre-season during the second half, but that could be scuppered with any delays or traffic.

Finally in regards to Paul Hodges, we have had a good conversation with him this week about where we see him, and after going to watch him play 80 minutes for Hartley Wintney on Tuesday, it has been decided at this time that he will go and effectively dual sign with them, but on the understanding that if it is right with us and the player that we can recall him at any stage.

We feel he has been very positive in pre-season and that he has something about him, and this way he can go and step up to level 4 and hopefully get a number of games and goals under his belt, at a club where we know the management team well. He will continue to train with us when appropriate, and we will monitor him closely.

Squad for Saturday is as follows:

Goalkeeper TBC, Sean Fraser, Josh Jackman, Nathan Smart, Guy Hollis, Warren Harris, Matt Lench, Simon Dunn, Nathan Webb, Manny Williams, Brad Wadkins, Chris Flood, Gavin James.
