Ground Update
|
| Chairman Steve Easterbrook |
Both Steve Bateman and Tony Thompson have been working hard to establish squads that will take us forward next season and the new ground proposals are progressing well.
The proposals for a new ground will be reviewed by the councils Overview and Scrutiny committee in early July and whilst we have 'been here before' I do feel that we now have a proposal that meets many different objectives. There is much I could say about the new ground but I don't want to tempt fate!
Detailed below is the press release which should be in the papers tomorrow.
Exciting new proposal by Slough Town Football Club
Slough Town Football Club (STFC) will submit a proposal to Slough Borough Council's Overview and Scrutiny panel next month to develop the Arbour Vale site on Stoke Road.
STFC, along with Paradigm Housing Group, are proposing to develop the site with much needed family homes, sports fields and a new, state-of-the-art stadium.
The proposal will include:-
- 81 residential dwellings, the majority of which will be affordable housing.
- New stadium.
- New external football pitches including 3G artificial pitch.
In addition to the use by the wider community, it's been agreed that, with exception of the stadium pitch, the external football pitches and 3G artificial pitch will be made available for use by St Joseph's School, who currently have access to the playing field space.
Steve Easterbrook, chairman for STFC, said: "This is a very exciting proposal and one the club is very proud of."
"To be able to create a state-of-the-art stadium, with improved facilities and affordable family homes is a wonderful opportunity for the residents of Slough.
The Club believes the proposal will breathe new life into the Arbour Vale site and benefit the public."
"During the process the club has been keen to work with all parties and we are very pleased to now be in a position where the council can consider the proposals. I would like to thank the officers for their patience, hard work and time that they have given to the club."
Councillor Shafiq Chaudhry, Commissioner for community and leisure, said: "The proposals I've seen are innovative and exciting and I look forward to bringing them to our July meeting to discuss with the other councillors."
"The council is committed to improving the local environment - making Slough a great place to live, work, play, learn, shop and invest. As part of this development the stadium could provide exemplary community and sports facilities for the whole borough, with countless health and fitness benefits. It would be a boost to the whole town if this scheme is agreed, with the very real possibility of bringing football back to Slough."
I hope that in the very near future I will be able to report that we can finally move the proposal to next stage and realise the goal of bringing Slough Town Football Club home.
