World Cup Qualifying: El Salvador 12-0 Anguilla

Brian Connor was named as captain, whilst Jermaine Gumbs and Rommell Gumbs also both started, as Anguilla travelled to El Salvador for the first leg of their World Cup 2010 qualifying match. The scoreline, however, was an emphatic 12-0 in favour of the more experienced home side.

In front of a crowd of 15,000 at the Estadio Cuscatln in San Salvador, it took El Salvador just five minutes to break the deadlock, with Shawn Martin heading in a left wing cross. Things would only go from bad to worse for Anguilla as Martin added his second 12 minutes later.

Rudy Corrales then grabbed two in as many minutes to kill the game off and give the hosts a 4-0 half time lead. Ronald Cerritos added a fifth just a minute into the second half, before Corrales hit three more in quick succession to bring his total for the day to five, and move to the top of the region's scoring charts.

As expected, the hosts were far too strong for their opponents, with Anguilla restricted to having little of the ball. Cerritos added two more in the final 15 minutes to complete a hat-trick, with further goals from Quintanilla and Umana.

The Slough trio will hope to build on the experience gained ahead of the second leg, due to be played on March 26 at a neutral venue in Washington, DC.
