Manager team announces further signings

Jon Underwood and Neil Baker announce further additions to Slough's strikeforce for the coming season.

27/06/13

Further to the news this week that both Ryan O'Toole and Jake Parsons have joined Beaconsfield, we are in a better position to be able to let you know where we are in terms of our attacking options for the coming season.

As you are all aware we have secured Eddie Smith, who you all know very well, having been top scorer last year with 33 goals. In addition to him, we can now confirm, despite interest from other clubs at our level and above, that Darren Wheeler, Warren Harris, Scott Harris and Johnnie Dyer have all agreed to sign to Slough for the forthcoming season.

'Wheels' most of you will know, and is one of the best left wingers at this level, having previously played for Weymouth, Farnborough, Basingstoke, Fleet and Godalming.

He is lightning quick with fantastic ability, he creates and scores a number of goals, and last season he managed to score 13, whilst probably having a hand in another 30.

Warren Harris is a 21 year old right winger, who we took on loan at Godalming from Staines Town, where he was playing for them in the Conference South.

He is the younger brother of Scott, and is a great talent. He is hardworking, quick and has a real eye for goal, having scored 23 last season, including 21 league goals.

Scott or "Hatchett" as he is known has been with us at Godalming for 2 years now, and has scored 20 plus goals in both seasons. He was previously with Ashford Town (Middx), where he was part of the team that achieved promotion to the Ryman Premier, and was in the top goalscoring charts at that level too. He is an incredibly strong forward, who works himself into the ground for the team, a handful for any defender to mark.

Finally we have Johnnie Dyer, who was our top goalscorer last season with 24. He is an ex England schoolboy international, and made his debut for Basingstoke in the Conference South at 16.

Johnnie had a fantastic last season, and is a real handful for defenders, and despite not being the tallest striker in the world he is excellent in the air, his workrate and attitude is fantastic, and he is raring to go for next season.

On top of this we will have Dan Read coming back pre season, again from Godalming Town. Dan is a 23 year old striker who can also play out wide. He had an unfortunate season last year, suffering a dislocated shoulder in our second game at Beaconsfield, which led to him missing two months, and with the way he plays he was always playing catch up last season in terms of sharpness and fitness.

The year before, he was our top goalscorer with 26 goals in the Ryman Division One South at 21, and was highly sought after. Partly due to that injury he only scored nine last year, however we expect him to come back and have a real go, and if he finds the form of the previous year, he will be another excellent addition.

There are also one or two others that we will be looking at pre season, however with the six players described there, four appeared in the top goalscoring charts in the league last year, of which three were in the top 10, so they will need to be on top of their game.
