FA Draws Announced

Slough Town handed away draw in FA Trophy with a visit to a familiar ground

05/07/13

The Trophy draw is incredible! certainly be an interesting day, great for Bakes and I to go back there and see some really good people

In an ironic twist of near predictable fate, Slough Town have been paired up with Godalming Town in the FA Trophy.

With the management team, and a number of players, moving between the two clubs over the summer months, there was almost an air of inevitability the two clubs would be paired to face off in cup competitions this season and the FA Trophy Preliminary Round draw hasn’t disappointed.

The two sides will face up at Wey Court on Saturday 5th October. The winners of the Preliminary Round tie will host either Merthyr Town or Yate Town on the 19th October.

Jon Underwood was delighted to be able to return to a club where he enjoyed so much success last season. “The Trophy draw is incredible! certainly be an interesting day, great for Bakes and I to go back there and see some really good people” he commented. “We know their new management team very well and are good friends with them so will no doubt be some good banter on the touchline!”

The FA Cup has also paired the club with a side it has faced recently in fellow Calor Gas Southern Leaguers Cirencester Town in the Preliminary Round. The two sides faced off in the league in the 2008/9 season with both sides winning their respective home games which has been the only two times the clubs have faced one another.

The tie will take place on the weekend of the 31st August, with the date to be confirmed due to Beaconsfield SYCOB also being draw at home in the competition. The winners of this tie will travel to Banbury United in the First Qualifying Round.

Neil Baker was under no illusions as to the challenges the draw has presented for the Rebels. “In the FA Cup I think we have a really tough draw, Cirencester I know will be decent this year and I know a few lads there. Then obviously Banbury away will be tough too, so in reality the FA Cup draw could have been kinder.”

Fellow manager Jon Underwood added “Cirencester at home in Cup won't be easy but good to be at home and with it being a Sunday should hopefully get a decent crowd for the game would be great to get a run in both competitions but there are tough games in both draws.”

The young Rebels FA Cup draw has also been conducted with Mark Betts’ side hosting Buckingham Town during the week of Monday 23rd September.
