Slough Town FC and MyFC – Questions and Answers

Questions and Answers relating to Slough Town FC's newly formed sponsorship agreement with MyFC

09/07/13

Who are MyFC?

Myfootballclub (MyFC) are a global society who like to follow and provide support for a club at grass roots level. They raise their funds through yearly memberships and other fundraising activities and offer its members an experience by providing information and regular updates on how the team is performing. So for the fan who perhaps cannot get to games or is abroad it enables them to still support and enjoy the highs and lows of non league football.

How many members have MyFC got?

MyFC currently have around 1000 paying members. All of the members have an overriding interest in helping the development of grassroots, community based football.

How does sponsorship work?

Quite different from a more typical commercial sponsorship MyFC will not be seeking to gain commercial benefit from their sponsorship. The aim is to provide an experience for members that keep them interested in both MyFC and STFC which in turn will increase MyFC’s ability to provide further support.

How will this relationship affect STFC fans?

I very much hope that Slough fans will welcome this relationship. As I have said MyFC are not, as they did with Ebbsfleet United, looking to own a football club, they want to provide their members with updates and information so they can support the club. Examples of what may be provided include manager and chairman updates and perhaps the filming of home games which would then be available for viewing. There are many other opportunities and all of these will be explored as the partnership develops. At the end of the day anything that enhances members and STFC supporters experience will have a positive affect on the club.

I understand that MyFC were involved with Ebbsfleet United?

The relationship that Ebbsfleet United had with MyFC was very different. In the case of Ebbsfleet United, MyFC purchased a majority shareholding and were the majority owners of the club. They subsequently sold their stake in Ebbsfleet and I can advise that MyFC do not want to own STFC. This is a sponsorship arrangement and the aim is to establish a partnership enabling MyFC to provide financial, marketing and other support to the club from which members can have an engaging experience with STFC being the focal point.

Will STFC fans notice anything different?

Any change will be gradual and any change will be for the benefit of both the club and the fans. We are in fact already experiencing change with the appointment of two young managers who now regularly converse with fans via social media. Greater player/manager/chairman and fan involvement in the future will lead to fans and supporters feeling more involved - everything is shaping up to an exciting season ahead. With MyFC now onboard as well I can feel a real buzz of anticipation and I honestly believe we will continue to grow our fan base as a result of our partnership with them.

Is there anything supporters can do?

I would like to think that Slough Town supporters will welcome this new relationship and can see the benefits that it offers and the potential for the future. This is a unique opportunity from which we can grow the fan base, grow the club and increase Slough Town FC’s profile. Adopting a positive approach is key and I would urge fans to allow the relationship to develop. There will undoubtedly be problems but I am confident we can overcome these. The success of this relationship is very much in the clubs and the supporter’s hands and I would urge fans to be patient and refrain from entering into speculation or criticisms which may affect the relationship. I am very confident that we can make this work; it may take some time but if we all concentrate on making it a success then this club will prosper.

What can I do if I want some more information?

Please direct any questions you have to any of the management committee. However please feel free to email myself at chairman@sloughtownfc.net if you want a specific question answered – I may not be able to answer immediately but I will get a response to you.

One last thing

MyFC have no hidden agendas and have no intention in taking ownership of STFC or any other club. I appreciate that there will be some apprehension from supporters with regards to this relationship but if we, and MyFC approach it positively, then we should all gain and the club prospers. We must avoid any animosity and I hope we can all work together to prevent and stamp out any misguided, unhelpful comments designed to destabilise our relationship. We can make this work - Up the Rebels!
