Slough bring in Granger as cover

A squad update from the joint managers, as the Rebels bring in short-term cover for Jake Somerville.

07/11/13

Jake Somerville has picked up a slight groin strain and will be out for the next couple of games.

We decided against bringing James Hawtree back, as when we brought him back for the Red Insure Cup game, it meant Bracknell had to go out and get another keeper in for that Tuesday night. Unluckily for James, he was one that they had gone for in the summer, so it meant James ended up losing his place. Therefore we do not want to go down that route again, as we feel that he will develop better by having a steady year of playing senior football.

We have brought Matt Bonnet into the squad, who is in Mark Betts' youth team. He has been training with us for the last few weeks, and looks a very good prospect also, however we are not going to throw him straight into the first team at 16 with no senior league experience. We are hopeful that being around the first team more, come the end of the season he will get some first team experience.

This has meant that we have had to go out and get a keeper to cover Jake, and we are pleased to bring in Billy Granger.

Billy is 19 next month, and spent all of last season at Fulham academy where they won the FA Premier League. We actually took him on loan for one game last season at Godalming as we have a good tie up with Fulham, and he came in and was excellent.

He was released at the end of last season, and started this season with Wigan for a couple of months trying to earn a professional contract, however he is currently training full time with AFC Wimbledon, but as we knew he was looking to get some minutes under his belt, we felt it was perfect timing.

Sean Fraser is probably a few weeks away from a return. He is walking now without crutches, and we hope he can step up his recovery.

Blounty is still a couple of weeks away also from training.

Ollie Burgess unfortunately did not pass a fitness test on Tuesday, however we are hoping that he may be available for the weekend - although whether we push him for Saturday remains to be seen with three fully fit midfielders around him.

Also, Eddie Smith will be back in the squad for Saturday.
