Daventry Town are the visitors to Holloways Park on Saturday, and with both sides hopeful of challenging for promotion at the end of the season, it is shaping up to be an important match.

Slough climbed to third in the league table after defeating North Greenford 3-0 on Tuesday evening, whilst Daventry sit in sixth place, three points behind the Rebels but with five games in hand. The Northants side enjoyed a superb start to the league campaign before cup commitments took priority last month. The ‘Purple Army’ flew the flag for the Calor Central division in the First Round Proper of the FA Cup, exiting the competition with a 2-0 defeat at League Two Chesterfield, and have also qualified for the First Round Proper of the FA Trophy.

Daventry returned to league action on Tuesday after a six week absence, beating Uxbridge 2-1. But manager Darran Foster was forced into two very early substitutions after injuries to striker Scott Cross and midfielder Chris Murphy. Foster reportedly has a long injury list to contend with currently.

Ollie Burgess and Michael Blount took part in the entire training session tonight (Thursday) and Sean Fraser is a step closer to being fit. However, Guy Hollis is a major doubt for Saturday due to a hamstring strain.

Joint manager Neil Baker: “We are looking forward to welcoming a very good Daventry side, who have done the Calor Central league wonders with their cup runs.

“They are a strong side, who we will give the utmost respect to, however we know that we are also a strong side, and should be able to give anyone a game.

“I feel that if anyone can finish above Daventry, they will more than likely win the league.

“Hopefully it will be an entertaining game and that the fans come out in numbers and really get behind the team.”
