Looking Ahead: Egham Town

A look ahead to the midweek fixture at home to Egham Town

03/03/14

In many ways Saturday's performance was as good as we've seen from this group of players.

Slough will be welcoming Egham Town to Holloways Park on Tuesday evening in what is a mouthwatering prospect on paper.

The two sides are currently bang in form with Slough winning their last six and Egham their last four, with the Sarnies not conceding in that time. It will be just the fourteenth clash between the two sides with Slough holding a good record against their Surrey opponents. Prior to this season's encounters, the two sides last met ten years ago in an Isthmian League encounter and a small sixty-eight year gap prior to that!

When the two sides met earlier on in the season they battled to a two all draw with Egham coming from a goal down to take the lead, only for Slough to restore parity to the scoreline shortly after going behind. Both the game's equalisers came within minutes of the other team scoring, so both teams will be mindful of keeping things tight should they get on the scoresheet. The game also saw both sides reduced to ten men. If this game is anything to go by, the neutral supporters should be in for a treat if the two sides produce similar entertainment as we enter the "business end" to the season.

With the recent wet weather having played havoc with the fixtures at the Runnymede Stadium with much of the ground underwater at times, Egham have done well to keep their momentum going despite not being able to get a consistent run of fixtures in their calendar. They have been unfortunate to suffer four postponements from their last seven scheduled fixtures and will be looking to continue their excellent run of form at the expense of the Rebels.

The Egham squad contains some familiar faces for the Rebels supporters with Joe Chandiram, Ryan O'Toole and Ryan Lake. O'Toole has continued to demonstrate his qualities at this level with ten goals and nine assists in his twenty-two appearances for the Sarnies this season.

Catching up with Rebels' joint manager Jon Underwood, he had this to say about the upcoming match.

"Although we are on a great run at the moment and full of confidence we know tomorrow's game will be a real test. Egham have been flying since Christmas and along with us are one of the form sides in the division. They have recently ground out 1-0 wins at both Dunstable and Northwood which just goes to show how tough an opponent they will be and we know we are going to have to put in another very good performance if we are to keep our winning run going.

We hope to be able to keep the same 16 man squad from Saturday although we do have a few knocks that will need to be assessed before the game with 3 players (Jamie McClurg, Eddie Smith and Ryan Parsons) needing to see Kev before the game. We are hopeful that they will all be fit to start with Eddie probably being the main concern at this moment in time with a dead leg.

In many ways Saturday's performance was as good as we've seen from this group of players. The pitch was difficult to even walk on in places yet some of our football was outstanding but the real key for me was the hunger that we showed right throughout the side from the first minute to the last. On another day we might have scored 6 or 7 but we were still delighted with the 3-0 scoreline.”

Squad as follows - Somerville, Fraser, R.Parsons, Woozley, Foulser, Hollis, McClurg, Short, Rumbold, J.Parsons, Wheeler, W,Harris, Smith, S.Harris, Dyer, Cornell.
