Looking Ahead: St Ives Town

A look ahead to this weekends fixture at home to St Ives Town

07/03/14

We have had to move quickly to bring in a centre back for Saturday following the injury in midweek to skipper Adam Foulser.

The Rebels welcome St Ives Town to Holloways Park on Saturday for only the second clash between the two sides in their respective histories. The opening encounter between the sides took place in November where the Rebels put in a very good performance to come away with a three goal victory at Westwood Road with a brace from Johnnie Dyer and one from Darren Wheeler. Video highlights of the match are available from the St Ives Youtube page which can be found here.

As with many teams in non league football, the Saints have struggled with getting fixtures in since the turn of the year having played only eight out of their last twenty two fixtures due to postponements. Whilst this may have an impact on keeping a team sharp, it certainly hasn't stopped the entertainment value for the Saints supporters with thirty four goals being scored or conceded in their last six matches. Nine of those goals were included in their most recent match when the Saints hosted Northwood and came very close to an amazing comeback. Having been reduced to ten men and finding themselves four goals behind, Saints rallied and loanee Maty Waters hit a hat-trick, but the Woods had added a fifth and Saints just couldn't find the equalising goal.

Meanwhile on Tuesday evening, the Rebels recent good form came to an abrupt halt with a 1-3 defeat against Egham Town. The game saw the Rebels finish with ten men after centre back Adam Foulser had to leave the pitch with a knee injury after all three substitutes had been made. With the injury concern to Adam, and Guy Hollis close to match fitness but not being risked to start matches, Jon and Neil have made a move to bring in a defender ahead of the game with St Ives.

Jon Underwood provided a squad update for the website. "We have had to move quickly to bring in a centre back for Saturday following the injury in midweek to skipper Adam Foulser. We are delighted to announce we have brought in Dan Sintim from Ryman Prem side Met Police on a dual registration basis and thank their manager Jim Cooper for his co-operation with this. Dan has been a regular there this season, making 38 appearances, but in recent weeks has found himself on the bench so what will initially be a short-term arrangement will work well for both parties. We have seen Dan play a number of times in recent years and have always been impressed so we're very happy to have him on board.

Guy Hollis is very close to a comeback but we think the Daventy game next weekend is more realistic for him and, particularly given the injury to Adam, we don't want to risk bringing him back too soon and maybe losing him for the rest of the season. We have been naming him on the bench, and will do again on Saturday, as he is 90% there but almost certainly will not use him just yet.

We have several other 'knocks' within the squad and Kev was certainly a busy man at training tonight, but we don't expect anyone to have a problem for Saturday and will be naming virtually the same squad as we have for the past two games with Dan for Adam being the only change."

Squad: Somerville, Fraser, R.Parsons, Sintim, Woozley, Hollis, McClurg, Rumbold, Short, J.Parsons, Wheeler, W.Harris, S.Harris, Smith, Dyer, Cornell.
