Looking Ahead: Daventry Town

A look ahead to this weekends fixture away at Daventry Town

14/03/14

Dan Sintim will remain with us for the time being on a dual signing also after the news on Foulser.

The Rebels will travel up to Communications Park this Saturday looking to continue their good run against a side which are favourites for the Calor Gas Southern League Division One Central title at this stage of the season.

Daventry are currently playing catch up on league fixtures thanks mainly to an excellent run in the FA Cup which saw them travel to Chesterfield in the First Round Proper having overcome Hillingdon, Berkhamsted, Belper Town, Grays Athletic and Hartley Witney on route. They were unlucky not to come away with a result from Chesterfield, who were flying high in the League Two table at the time of the clash, and gained much admiration and respect from their hosts for their performance and support on the day.

With seventeen games left to play as of the start of March, the Daventry squad will be tested to the limit, and with no midweek slots left available, the Town will be hoping for no more postponements in their remaining fixtures to cause any further congestion. The club received a huge boost with the return of prolific striker Tommy Berwick to the squad in early March and were in the midst of a six game winning run. With Ashley Robinson in fine goalscoring form with 24 goals from 44 appearances, and a very good record of scoring against Slough, a Rebels defence missing captain Adam Foulser will be given a stern test. The Rebels will also face up against Ashley Deeney who left the Rebels during the summer after a season long spell at Holloways Park to join Kettering, before making the short move to Communications Park.

Slough's visit will be their fourth match in the space of a week and the Rebels will be hoping for some tired legs from the home side to help their own cause in their ambition to cement a play off place. Daventry's excellent home record was given a thorough examination by Kettering Town on Thursday evening, and the Poppies came away with an excellent three goal victory to further enhance their own aspirations for promotion. Despite the reverse, Daventry still boast an incredible home record this season with thirteen wins and a draw in fifteen home games and with five games in hand over leaders Rugby Town, they still have a very good chance of claiming top spot.

Following a tightly contested encounter earlier in the season at Holloways Park, the Rebels will have to be at their best to come away with anything from the game on Saturday.

Following Thursday nights training session, joint manager Neil Baker commented:

“We end the day on a positive training session, after the terrible news this morning regarding Foulser.

Foulser was at training with a smile on his face, and will be a positive influence in the changing room despite not being able to feature on the pitch for a while.

On the plus side Warren got through training, after not being able to train Tuesday, due to a knee complaint, also Jake Parsons pretty much got through the whole session, however unlikely that we will risk starting him Saturday, but he will be in the squad, so not as bad as first feared.

Also Guy Hollis is getting stronger, and has declared himself fit for the weekend, so will be used if needed, obviously we want to get him back in the fold as quick as we can.

Dan Sintim will remain with us for the time being on a dual signing also after the news on Foulser.

With Daventry getting beaten tonight, we know they will be desperate to bounce back with a win Saturday, so makes Saturday’s tough game, even tougher!”

Squad from as follows:

Jake Somerville, Sean Fraser, Ryan Parsons, Guy Hollis, Dave Woozley, Dan Sintim, Leigh Rumbold, Jamie McClurg, George Short, Warren Harris, Steve Duff, Jake Parsons, Eddie Smith, Johnnie Dyer, Scott Harris, Adam Cornell.
