Midweek Update

An update on the playing front as a number of players gain game time and Gareth Risbridger signs on.

19/03/14

If we are able to get him back to his best we will undoubtedly have one of the best central midfielders at this level.

Neil Baker on Gareth Risbridger

After the Daventry game we gave most of our lads Tuesday night off with the exception of one or two who had treatment with Kev.

Guy Hollis, Ben Edwards, Adam Cornell, Steve Duff and Seb Castello all played for Badshot Lea in their 1-0 away win at Alton Town in the Combined Counties Premier League.

For Guy and Ben it was their first games in two and a half months. Guy came through the 90 minutes and excelled, however Ben had a further setback with his back and came off after 70 minutes, and we will wait on if he has a reaction tomorrow.

Adam Cornell got another 90 minutes and was the scorer with a coolly taken penalty, whilst Steve Duff got a good blow out in his first game since the start of November. Despite some rustiness, which is to be expected, his fitness was very good and he got through the whole game.

Seb Castello was another one to play the full game in what is also a very good experience for him.

On the player front we have signed Gareth Risbridger on Southern League Forms.

For those that don’t know ‘Ris’ he is a 31 year old central midfielder, who started his career at Yeovil Town and then Southend United. He has however played most of his career at Conference South level with Staines Town and Boreham Wood, and consistently been one of the best players at that level.

A serious injury has kept him out of action for 18 months, however he has been on the comeback trail for a while now, and he has managed to step up his training with us over the last few weeks, and looked very good in training last week.

If we are able to get him back to his best we will undoubtedly have one of the best central midfielders at this level.

We also anticipate signing one more by next week with the impending departure of Leigh Rumbold after Saturday’s game.
