Looking Ahead: Royston Town

A look ahead to this weekend's fixture at home to Royston Town

28/03/14

Slough Town welcome Royston Town to Holloways Park this weekend in a clash at the top end of the table in which both sides will be looking to further enhance their stakes for the play off places this season.

With things tightening up at the top, Slough will be looking to continue their recent good run but will be fully aware of the threat posed by their visitors.

This will only be the fourth meeting between the two sides with the Rebels holding a slight advantage over the Crows with two victories to their opponents one. Slough, having already managed to pick up a very hard earned three points at Garden Walk in November, will be looking to consolidate third position in the table as they follow up this clash with a trip to fifth place Barton Rovers on Thursday night.

Tipped by many at the start of the season to be challenging for the title, the Crows season has been a little stop start. Their past nine games have returned a symmetrical set of results with three wins, draws and defeats in that time. However, with Craig Hammond, Robbie Mason and last seasons top scorer Kaan Fehmi in the side who have provided a combined total of 42 goals, the Crows will always cause teams problems.

Having completed the SSMFL double in the 2011/12 season, the club is on an upward trajectory. In their first season in the Southern League, Royston, like Slough, narrowly missed out on the play off positions following a successful campaign. Continuing their development into this season a number of high profile signings came to the club over the summer months, the Crows will be looking to continue their improvement in the league positions also with a fine run to close off the season.

Catching up with one of the joint managers before the game on Saturday, Jon Underwood was pleased to provide information for the Rebels supporters.

"The squad for the Royston game will be the same 15 that we took to North Greenford on Tuesday:

Jake Somerville, Sean Fraser, Ryan Parsons, Guy Hollis, Dave Woozley, Dan Sintim, Jamie McClurg, George Short, Gareth Risbridger, Jake Parsons, Warren Harris, James Dobson, Eddie Smith, Scott Harris, Adam Cornell.

Johnnie Dyer and Steve Duff are both away (returning for Barton game), Adam Foulser and Ben Edwards injured, while Seb Castello continues his run of games for Badshot Lea which is giving him great experience of senior football at the moment.

The only slight concern we have is Warren Harris who has been playing with a bit of a knee problem and was OK on Tuesday but has struggled a bit since then and just had treatment tonight. We are hopeful he will be OK though as he is a key player for us.

The lads trained really well tonight with a smile on their faces and the spirit within the changing room is fantastic at the moment. We'll go in to Saturday full of confidence but very aware of the quality that Royston possess and we know it will be a very tough game."
