Looking Ahead: AFC Hayes

A look ahead to the weekends fixture away to AFC Hayes

04/04/14

Coming into the time of season where every point counts, and every point dropped has a dramatic effect on the league standings, Slough will have been hugely buoyed by a hard fought win over fellow play off contenders Barton Rovers on Thursday evening.

Less than 48 hours later, the squad will travel over to AFC Hayes who will be keen to halt a run of three consecutive defeats and as the Rebels will know all to well, have a striker who is capable of changing any game in Tony Mendy. Slough will have to be at the top of their game to overcome a Hayes side who have a good record against Slough in recent seasons, including a 2-1 victory at Holloways Park earlier this season.

The Middlesex side have again proved their qualities by comfortably staying in the division and with an excellent youth setup feeding into the first team, "The Brook" are well set for the long term. Whilst there may be little to play for in the league for Hayes, they always enjoy putting one over on Slough as was seen in the reverse fixture in December.

Slough will also be looking to go one better than the U18 side who clashed on Thursday evening in a game which saw Matty Bonnett break his leg in three places following an accidental collision.

Joint manager Neil Baker added his thoughts ahead of another important encounter. After a fantastic 3 points away at Barton tonight, we need to get our heads on an equally tough game away at AFC Hayes. Having watching AFC Hayes on Tuesday we were really impressed with them, and in Tony Mendy they have a striker who will be looking to get one over on us.

With less than 36 hours for the lads to recover, we will need to really dig deep. Whilst it is so soon after the game, we will go with the same squad as we went to Barton with, however we can add in Dan Sintim who was not quite fit for the Barton game.

Obviously Jake got a kick at the end, but we expect him to be ok (albeit a bit sore), and we will speak to the lads before deciding on any side. Hopefully the fans will be out in force again, and they were excellent tonight, and really get the lads going.
