A Boxing Day fixture is often a highlight of the football calendar, but Slough supporters may be forgiven for heading to The Meadow, home of Chesham United, for 1pm on Friday with some trepidation.
Although Slough Town's all-time record against their Buckinghamshire rivals is fairly even, their recent record is anything but. Since 1999, the two sides have met 13 times across all competitions, with the Generals emerging victorious 11 times, and Slough just once.
Memories of the 4-0 drubbing in the 2009/10 Southern League Division One Midlands playoff final will have faded further after Slough won promotion to the Premier Division last season, however Chesham have already defeated the Rebels this season - ending their unbeaten start to life at Step 3 with a convincing 3-0 win at Holloways Park in August.
However, Slough's performance so far has been very encouraging, with the Rebels currently occupying 10th spot in the league table. Chesham sit just one place below, with two fewer points and one game in hand, although there are various matters to resolve involving matches against Banbury United and Hereford United, who were wound up by the High Court last week.
Supporters are reminded this match is a 1pm kick-off.
Joint manager Neil Baker provides supporters with an update ahead of the match:
"We go into the Christmas period in a strong position in the league, and we can look forward to the Chesham game without any real pressure.
There is always something special about a Boxing Day fixture, and I am sure there will be a good crowd and atmosphere for the game.
We hope to be able to call upon Billy Jeffreys and Reece Yorke who have both missed the last three games due to knee injuries, and we can also welcome James Dobson back into the squad after suspension.
There is a slight doubt over Ben Edwards' foot injury that he sustained against Dorchester, and Jamie McClurg will also be missing due to a relapse from his knee injury Saturday gone. Finally, Guy Hollis will miss the next two games due to his family having their Christmas over in Dubai (as his sister has moved there).
Squad will be from the following:
Jake Somerville, Sean Fraser, Ryan Parsons, Tom Moran, Leigh Rumbold, Reece Yorke, Billy Jeffreys, Adam Foulser, James Dobson, Jake Parsons, Ben Edwards, Adrian Sear, Luke Knight, Oscar Betts, Scott Harris, Eddie Smith and Johnnie Dyer.
