Rebels make changes to squad

After a disappointing start to the season, Neil Baker and Jon Underwood have made a number of changes to the squad.

27/09/15

Following a disappointing start to the season, we have today started the process of re-shaping the squad.

Firstly, Jamie McClurg will leave the club. 'Clurgy' has been a vital part of our team at Slough, playing a huge role in our promotion, not least with his winning goal in the playoff final, but also his general great attitude around the place. Whilst his effort and work rate has never been questioned, he has struggled to find the form we are looking for this season, and it is with a heavy heart that he moves on.

Ben Edwards will also move on. Having spoken with him, he has decided to retire from playing. Ben is a hugely respected figure within the changing room and played a vital role helping us out when needed last season. He has had an excellent career, and between him and Jamie they are two of the nicest people we have had the pleasure of meeting in the game.

Both Ben and Clurgy are close personal friends of ours which in one way makes these decisions far harder, but in another way easier as they understand more than anyone how much success means to us and that we need to make changes and both took the decision well. We thank them both for their efforts over the past few seasons.

Callum Webb also looks to be signing for Egham. He showed great promise initially in pre-season and has very good technical ability but we believe he has struggled to make the step from the professional game and development team football to non-league football at this stage. We will keep an eye on him to see how he develops, with the potential to bring him back.

Gurkan Gokmen will remain with Ascot on dual registration for the time being to get the regular football he needs.

On the incoming side, Leigh Rumbold will be back in the UK on the 10th of October and will re-join the squad straight away - however this will not be a long term solution, as he will eventually move to the USA for good, but we will probably get 8-10 weeks from him.

These will not be the only things that we will be doing, and there will be a few more changes in the coming two weeks. We are working very hard to bring in the right type of player to improve our squad but we will not be able to do everything that we want this week. Our aim however is to re-shape the squad as quickly as possible. Not every decision we make will be liked by everyone but every decision will be taken with the sole aim of making this squad competitive and to begin to climb the league.
