Programme Notes v Sutton Coldfield Town
Manager Steve Bateman
It seems a long time ago since our previous meeting on the opening day of this season, which ended in a 2-2 draw after we led 2-0. Another tough test awaits us today as our opponents are one of the sides starting to make a move to secure a play-off slot this season and have enjoyed some decent results lately on their travels.
It's fair to say we had a below par last week ourselves, with a draw, a loss and a win and we will be looking to get back towards the consistency of the last few months quickly. During the past week there have been unexpected last minute changes due to illness in the squad, non availability and even traffic en-route to a match which have changed the expected starting line ups I had. Whilst I am not offering any excuses, maybe this has contributed in some way, but in reality we could have won all three games but for some fantastic goalkeeping.
Expectations this season have certainly been raised, and I have no problem with that at all, it's what motivates me to want to succeed. I have said many times that we are in a tough league and the outcome of the season will run for some while yet thanks to the enforced break and no-one running away with the league like last year.
The support again was excellent during the 2nd half on Monday evening against our landlords Beaconsfield SYCOB and did make a difference and we need more of the same today and in other important games ahead. I hope to see many of you at Burnham on Tuesday night.
