Hero Kenny Wilson described Ken's worst Monday’s injury time winner as: "The worst goal I have ever scored in my life”.

But few people in Wexham Park’s 1,000 plus crowd were complaining at the way the Slough winger scrambled the ball into the net three minutes into stoppage time.

Wilson’s goal provided the final twist to this most remarkable of cup sagas and at last secured Slough's first round tie with Aylesbury.

Yet, with Kingstonian having fluked an 88th minute equaliser, the match looked set for more extra time when Steve Norman angled a long hopeful cross into the box. The ball, though, reached Wilson by the far post. He seemed to have two or three goes at sticking it past 'keeper John Power before it finally looped into the air and dropped over the line.

Wilson explained why he had made such a meal of the opportunity: "People don't realise it, but it is very dark in that goal mouth. I totally lost sight of the ball as it came over and as it dropped it was stuck under my feet".

Judging by his dance of celebration, Wilson cared little about the way in which the bail found the net. He said: 'I was really pleased to get the goal. I was getting a lot of stick from a couple of their players”.

It was fitting that Wilson should finally seal the game after another quality performance, but ironic that Slough should win with their weakest display of the tie.

In fact, although no one could moan at the heart stopping climax, Monday's second replay never produced the exciting brand of football that the two previous episodes of a dramatic fourth qualifying round clash had dished up.

Particularly in the first half, the game was played at a more sedate pace with both teams frightened of making a crucial slip.

Maybe things would have been different if Rowan Dodds' shot on the turn after ten minutes had gone in rather than smacking off the foot of the post.

But the first period passed without further incident, save for bookings to Kingstonians Darren Bird and Martin Taylor, for hacking down Wilson and not retreating 10 yards at a free-kick.

With Tony Knight having another blinder and Jeff Bateman unwavering as ever Slough never looked in danger. And after the break they upped their performance at the other end.

Wilson almost took Micky Preston's head off with a crashing shot before the Rebels went ahead after 51 minutes.

Dean Woodley, restored to the team in favour of Micky Kiely, set the chance up by finishing off a swift break out defence with a fierce shot that Powell did well to turn for a corner.

When White's cross came over, Woodley nudged it through a crowd of players and Dodds accepted an easy chance from a couple of yards.

Cox was booked after bundling over John Martin and Kev O'Donaghue became the fourth player cautioned by the impressive Mr. Donn after taking Wilson down from behind.

But for the first time all evening Kingstonian began contributing more than just bookings to the match. Jester Williams started getting the better of inexperienced Paul Gardam and once more Slough were unable to secure the match.

Andy Wallace drove a free-kick over the bar to begin a frantic final 10 minutes and Graham Dodd completely fluffed his kick after a long ball into the box had fallen at his feet six yards from goal.

Bird made a similar blunder from the resulting believably scored another late equaliser. Wallace turned the ball in from the left for Martin, whose shot was deflected horribly from its original course, leaving Cox groping along the line on his knees in a vain attempt to keep the ball out.

Slough manager Howard Kennedy was later convinced that the deflection had been off a visiting player's arm. As Kingstonian piled forward and the referee discovered a surprising chunk of injury time, the Rebels fans began baying for the full time whistle. But their grumbles turned to whoops of delight moments later as, almost to a man, they joined in Wilson's victory jig.
