Howard Kennedy blasted his Slough players after a tame performance at Wexham Park on Wednesday.

It was always on the cards that Slough's Opel first Vauxhall League match for seemingly ages would be an anti-climax after the recent cup dramas.

But Kennedy moaned: "There is no The excuse. players were a disgrace. If they think they are going to win playing like that they have a rude awakening coming. You can't play football without the ball and they weren’t prepared to go and get it. To win the league you need players to perform game after game after game.”

A jaded looking Rebels outfit never made good enough use of the possession they enjoyed in the first half. And after the break they spent most of the time scrambling the ball away from around their own penalty area.

At the back Slough often seemed to lack the spirit to prevent their men getting away from them, while further forward people like Rowan Dodds and Kenny Wilson might just as well have had their pyjamas on.

Devon Petty put Dodds on the run after seven minutes, but his shot went across goal and wide. After 31 minutes Dodds got on the end of Petty's low but saw his effort blocked a shot on the turn.

They were Slough's best moments of a drab first half and Harrow created even less until the 40th minute, when Steve Bateman headed in Steve Long's cross, but only after shoving Steve Norman in the back.

Harrow looked the swifter side after the break and heaved Slough full backs Norman and Gardam all over the place. But apart from a Steve Bateman shot twice deflected over off Sean Baker they never got a clean shot at goal.

On the occasions when Slough did get forward their former 'keeper Les Currell was far busier than his counterpart Cox. Graham.

On the hour he raced to the edge of the box to block Dodd's blast after Wilson's knock through the middle. Currell's finest save came after 70 minutes when he dived to his left to push away Jacob's curling effort, managing to keep the ball out of the path of the lurking Dodds.
