Slough fell to their third defeat of the season against local rivals Hayes in a game that twisted and turned inside 10 second half minutes. A sending-off and a disallowed goal coming within minutes of each other after Slough had gone 1-0 up, gave Hayes the opening they needed to fight back.

After a scrappy first half, the Rebels took the lead just three minutes into the second when Garry Smart got on the end of Mark Fiore's cross to hit home his first goal for the club.

But eight minutes later the game boiled over, as Gary Brazil clashed with Hayes' Jon Brady, and other players weighed in. After the referee had restored order he showed the yellow card to Brady and Martin Randall of Hayes, and to Slough's Andy Clement. Clement had been booked in the first half for a foul on Mark Hall. and so was duly shown the red.

Despite the disadvantage Slough came agonizingly close to extending their lead, when Brady had to clear Gary Abbott's goalbound effort off the line in the 63rd. Players and fans were adamant the ball had crossed the line, but the referee waved play on.

And immediately Hayes broke away, and substitute Jason Roberts was brought down by Paul Hardyman for a free kick just outside the box. Brady floated the free kick in and Gary Williams connected with a powerful header to bring the visitors level.

And just three minutes later Hayes had taken the lead after Roddis fed Roberts who let fly a shot from outside the area.

Slough pushed for an equaliser but were caught out in the 79th minute when Brazil's shot was blocked and fell to Roberts inside his own half.

Roberts took off and ended a 70 yard run with a well-placed shot that beat Noel Imber and sealed the points for Hayes.

It could have been even more emphatic as Randall, who had scored a hat-trick against Slough at Hayes, hit the post and then had a shot cleared by Tony Nolan.

The second half drama was in stark contrast to a fairly dour first 45 minutes.

Hardyman had the best chances for Slough just before the break, when he sent a header straight at the keeper, then headed over from Ted McMinn's cross.
