Both sides appeared nervous which no doubt accounted for Slough's lack of confidence in front of goal. But Cliff Hercules struck the post from Bolt's corner after three minutes while, two minutes later, Abbott shot wide of the mark from six yards.

Abbott shot over the bar from a good position 25 yards out in the 12th minute while Brazil's 25th minute effort found Marshall and Bolt finished wide from the edge of the box in the 38th minute.

Paul Wilkerson, in for a not fully fit Ben Miles, had little to do but like Marshall, who was called on to steer Abbott's 55th minute effort wide, did well to save at the feet of Gordon Guile when they came face to face three minutes later.

The Rebels will need to display more commitment to the cause when they meet Walton & Hersham at Stompond Lane in the second qualifying round.
The Laurie Craker managed club returned to the ICIS League Premier Division this season.

And with eight former Rebels playing, the team is virtually a Slough Town Old Boys side which will undoubtedly have a point to prove on September 27.
