A last minute Danny Jones goal meant an unhappy return to Southbury Road for former Enfield boss Graham Roberts on Saturday.

His present team, Slough Town, were holding the E's at 1-1 going into the 90th minute, when Jones burst through and chipped the ball over the advancing goalkeeper to give Enfield all three points.

As well as Roberts, there were three other former Enfield players in the Slough line-up, Lee Frances, Brian Hammatt and Mark Pye, and they helped the visitors make a strong start.

Andy Hall in the E's goal was by far the busier of the two keepers in the opening period and Archer and Barrowcliff both went close to opening the scoring.

The first chance for Enfield fell to Mark Bentley after 34 minutes. He beat Paul Wilkerson, the Slough keeper, only to see his chip cleared off the line by a piece of desperate defending, and this was the cue for a spell of home pressure.

Steve Darlington watched his effort from a tight angle go just the wrong side of the post and it was Gary Calder's side who opened the scoring through a Richard Dunwell volley just before half-time. Wilkerson managed to get both hands to the ball but could do little more than help it on its way to the net.

The score stayed at 1-0 until the 75th minute when Mark Hall fired in an unstoppable shot and it looked as though Enfield would be denied victory.

However they responded well and Mark Bentley, Richard Dunwell and Steve Darlington had all struck the woodwork as Enfield bombarded the visitors goal before Jones hit the last-gasp winner.

Calder said: "It was another good performance. We didn't play as well as we did last week against St Albans but we got the result this time.

"When you come close to scoring so many times you tend to think it's not going to happen but we kept trying and when Jones got his chance he finished it.

"Slough have a lot of experienced players and are quite a physical side but it was nothing we couldn't handle. We came through with flying colours and we'll carry on looking for wins right up to the end of the season."
