A rare mistake by Wealdstone goalkeeper Andy Carter, and a penalty save by Rebels goalkeeper Jake Whincup was the only difference between two evenly matched sides.

The match was a fairly scrappy affair early on. It was Slough however who looked the slightly more dangerous, with Ian Hodges going close with a header after a long clearance from defence.

Hodges did open the scoring on thirty-eight minutes though when his scuffed shot was horribly misjudged by Carter, who thought the ball was going wide. Sadly for the goalkeeper the ball went into the corner of the net.

Wealdstone slowly began to raise their game with the partnership of Marvin Morgan and Richard Jolly in particular causing the Rebels defence lots of problems. That combination combined when Morgan headed on for Jolly who volleyed over the bar.

Just before half-time the Stones had a great chance to equalise when Steve Daly was adjudged to have pushed Dave Ryan in the penalty area. Gary McKeown stepped up from the spot, but Whincup correctly dived to his left to save the resulting penalty.

In the second half Slough could have taken an early two goal lead when a cross from Alex Haddow only needed a touch to send the ball into the net.

As the match wore on Slough dropped deeper and deeper, and Wealdstone began to dominate with the London side camped in the Rebels half for the last fifteen minutes. Chances fell to Morgan and Jolly, but these chances were missed.

Gordon Bartlett's side could have levelled with almost the last kick of the match when a cross into the area looked set to present Ryan with an equaliser until a last ditch block by Daly denied the Wealdstone defender.
