Man Of Match: Steve Sinclair

Two goals from Leon Yarnie helped Burnham to an easy 3-0 win against a dismal Slough Town at The Gore.

Slough were never at the races in this game and were beaten in clinical fashion by a Burnham side enjoying rejuvenation under manager Carl Taylor.

The only noteworthy moment in the opening twenty minutes saw Ray Spence slice the ball over the goal from 20 yards after a poor clearance from Jamie Jackson.

Slough’s defensive frailties were evident on 26 minutes the Rebels conceded a corner unnecessarily after Rory Smith failed to clear. Instead, Richard Witt headed the ball unchallenged into the goal from Ben Hudell’s whipped corner to give Burnham the lead.

Just six minutes later, it was all too easy for Leon Yarnie as the big front man ran onto Witt’s pass and outmuscled Luke Evans before side footing home past Jackson.

Bubb blazed over from the edge of the box and also had a free kick saved easily by Chico Ramos, whilst Yarnie missed another decent chance for the hosts.

On the stroke of half-time, Burnham should have put the game to bed when Ray Spence was fouled in the box by Luke Evans. Former Rebel Glen Harris stepped up to take the kick, but it was at a good height for Jackson, who dived to his right to turn the ball away.

The half-time break failed to inspire the Rebels to a better second period as, whilst having good possession, Slough failed to create any clear-cut chances.

Steve Bateman threw on Sealey and Romeo in an attempt to get back into the game but the Rebels were toothless until late on when Bubb’s cross from the left was met on the volley by Steve Sinclair, but Ramos was on hand to block spectacularly.

Deep into injury time, Burnham scored a third after a dreadful clearance from Jackson allowed Yarnie an easy second goal.

Burnham: Ramos, Brown, Bird (c), Paris, Burns, Witt (Garstang), Jeffries, Hudell, Harris, Spence (Dowdican), Yarnie.
