Ten-man Slough exited the First Round of the Red Insure Cup at the hands of Southern Premier bogey side Chesham United.
An early own goal by David Woozley got Slough off to the worst possible start, the skipper turning a cross into his own goal past Dominique Jean-Zephirin - the Haiti international stopper making his first appearance of the season before jetting off to play a World Cup qualification double-header against Antigua & Barbuda.
In truth, Chesham wasted numerous chances to take a more comfortable lead into half-time, with Leon Archer and Simon Thomas wasting good opportunities.
Adam Martin was dismissed in the first half after a poorly-timed lunge in the Chesham left-back area, leaving the Rebels with a mountain to climb against their higher placed opponents.
Nine minutes into the second half, Gore made an excellent flying save to deny striker Thomas the ignominy of an own goal, but a couple of corner kicks later, Slough levelled. Woozley made amends for his earlier error, scoring his first goal for the club to equalise after his initial headed effort had been blocked.
But minutes later, Chesham regained the lead as Thomas confidently converted a penalty past Jean-Zephirin after the referee spotted holding in the area.
A bit more composure in front of goal would have seen Thomas score again, but the striker missed horribly from very close range.
Slough battled gamely in the second half without often looking likely to trouble Gore in the Chesham goal again, and Chesham made their numerical advantage count, holding onto the ball well and causing Slough to tire.
The Rebels can now focus fully on the challenge of staying at the top of Division One Central.
