Date: Tuesday, 14th July, 2009 | Man Of Match: Paul Edgeworth
A Hat-trick from skipper Paul Edgeworth saw Slough claim victory at Summerleaze Road in a useful pre-season work-out for the Rebels squad.
In the early stages both sides started brightly with the Rebels playing the better football, but Holyport creating the clearer chances. Early on 15-year old Slough goalkeeper Jemal De Richmond had to be at his best when he was forced into action on two separate occasions.
The home side were not to be denied their early goal though and took the lead when former Thatcham striker Aaron Lennon hooked the ball over De Richmond into the net.
Slough replied almost immediately when Edgeworth fired in a free-kick from the edge of the area into the net to level the scores.
The former Hemel-man then added his, and Slough’s second shortly before the break when he hit a shot from the edge of the area that rebounded off the crossbar into the net.
Slough began to make several chances late in the first-half and early in the second and Edgeworth grabbed his hat-trick and fourth goal of pre-season – heading in at the far post.
The hosts continued to look threatening and grabbed their second goal of the match with an effort that sneaked in off the far post.
Slough could have added to their lead late on with a couple of chances falling to Tyron Daly, but overall Steve Bateman will have been pleased with a very competitive work-out for the Rebels early in the pre-season campaign.
