A late strike by Danny Jordan saw the Rebels finish their pre-season campaign on a high with a deserved victory over Ryman Division One North side Enfield Town.
With no fewer than eleven substitutes named Steve Bateman had a wide range of options to choose from during the match and Enfield started with former Rebels centre back Ryan Wharton, but were without ex striker Sammy Winston.
The Rebels started brightly with wingers Chris Herron and Steve Sinclair involved in much of the Rebels early play.
Slough got themselves into some good attacking positions, but could not quite create any clear-cut chances in front of goal.
It was in fact the visitors who went closet when a swift counter attack lead to Slough goalkeeper Ricky Perks pushing the ball over the bar.
Enfield Town took the lead on 35 minutes when a cross into the area found Richard Morton at the far post. He headed past Perks into the net.
Slough almost levelled immediately though when a corner fell to Graham Edwards in the area. His fierce left-footed shot cannoned off the top of the crossbar and out for a goal-kick.
The Rebels were not to be denied the equaliser though as just before half-time Robbie Kean floated in the ball from the left and Tommy Hayes headed into the net.
In the second-half Slough continued to play good football. They had to wait until injury-time to score the winner though when Jordan picked the ball-up just outside the area and fired the ball into the bottom corner of the net.
Steve Bateman would have been very pleased with tonight’s performance going into our vital league opener against Sutton Coldfield this Saturday.
