A dismal second half condemned Slough Town to defeat at Uxbridge in Derek Sweetman’s final game as manager.

The home side fired an early warning shot with Danny Tilbury striking the ball wide on the volley from the edge of the box.

The opening exchanges were fairly even, but Uxbridge took their first chance as Kevin Warner’s long ball forward was knocked down for former Rebel Chris Robinson to poke past Jackson.

Five minutes later, Slough suffered a further blow as the commanding Luke Evans was forced off injured, having picked up a nasty-looking ankle injury, to be replaced by Allaway. The Slough skipper was clearly frustrated at having picked up another injury.

Johnny Dyer’s volley, which Jackson gathered at the second attempt, was the closest Uxbridge came to a second goal in the first half as Slough came back into the game and looked the more likely. Danny Jordan, partnering Yashwa Romeo in attack with Matthew Platt unavailable, laid the ball off to Romeo but his curling effort from 20 yards was saved brilliantly at full stretch by Ross.

Soon after, the same player went close again with a shot on the turn, but Ross got down well at his near post and saved with the ball dribbling towards the goal-line.

The second half started badly for Slough, and got no better. Jamie Jackson strayed from his penalty area and his clearance fell nicely for Tilbury, who sized up the situation before hitting the back of the net from 30 yards via the inside of the post.

Slough’s attacks were few and far between, with the Rebels looking most likely to create from set-pieces. Uxbridge put the game beyond reasonable doubt in the 59th minute as Lee Tunnell was given time to turn in the box and plant a half-volley into the top corner for 3-0.

With the Rebels crumbling, Roy Gumbs was thrown on to give Sweetman’s side another target man, and the decision almost paid off as Romeo’s cross was headed powerfully by Gumbs, but Ross produced another smart save.

Uxbridge wrapped up the points with a fourth goal borne out of more bad defending. Another long ball over the top was nodded on to Tunnell, who slotted easily past the helpless Jackson.

Kevin Warner missed a good chance, and Romeo fired just over from 25 yards, before Uxbridge had the chance to score a fifth from the penalty spot. Dave Warner was felled after a challenge from Harper, giving the referee no option. However, Jackson was able to redeem himself after his earlier error, diving to his left to push the same player’s kick away.

Harper’s header clipped the top of the crossbar deep into injury time, but Slough were unable to net a consolation goal.

Uxbridge: Ross, Brown, Thomas, Wharton, Browne, Tilbury, Robinson, K Warner, Tunnell (c), D Warner, Dyer. Subs: Carter, Davies, Lawrence, Owens, Tarr.
