Second half goals from Chris Flood, Warren Harris and Manny Williams helped Slough maintain their unbeaten start to pre-season with a 3-0 win against Bostik League Premier Division side Tooting & Mitcham.
The Rebels were again able to give minutes to 17 players, and experimented by playing Lee Togwell at centre-back and Brad Wadkins in midfield – along with a number of other positional switches during the second half.
Tooting should have scored as early as the third minute, but could only shoot into the side netting after a defensive mix-up.
James Dobson put a free kick wide of the post after a cynical foul on Paul Hodges and Jack Turner was called upon to push a strike from Tooting’s Dixon around the post, but generally the first half was low on goalmouth action with both sides cancelling each other out.
Six changes followed for Slough at half time, and on 54 minutes one of the substitutes, Chris Flood opened the scoring as he headed home a floated cross.
Slough clicked into gear and Harris, Williams and Simon Dunn all had chances to double the lead, but were denied by defensive blocks or the Tooting goalkeeper.
But the Rebels did add a second goal on 64 minutes. It came after a lovely piece of attacking play with Dunn linking well with Williams, and the former slipped a pass through to Harris, who found the bottom corner.
Three minutes later, Williams was in on the act as he found himself unmarked at the back post to head home a Harris cross.
Tooting had the ball in the net on 77 minutes through Clements, but his header from Hoban’s cross was adjudged offside.
Turner preserved his clean sheet with a fantastic save in the final minute, flying across his goal to block a goalbound effort.
Slough are at Arbour Park again next Saturday with Metropolitan Police the visitors for another 13:00 kick-off.
