Slough Town continued their pre-season preparations with a thumping 4-0 win over Bracknell Town at Arbour Park.

Tom McElroy notched two goals in the first half, with Scott Davies adding another direct from a free kick and Nathan Minhas adding a fourth late in the second half.

However, the Rebels will be concerned over the fitness of Gary Abisogun, who was stretchered off in the second half after appearing to suffer a knee injury as he turned on the ball on the touchline. The former Bracknell player was taken to hospital for x-rays.

After impressing and registering the winning goal against Banbury United on Tuesday evening, trialist McElroy was on target again after just three minutes. Matt Lench’s corner kick was punched by Robins goalkeeper Eacott only as far as McElroy around 12 yards out, and he made no mistake in firing the ball through the crowd of players and into the back of the net.

Slough dominated possession in the opening quarter of an hour and had further chances to score, but Eacott kept the score down.

However, Eacott could do nothing to prevent the Rebels from doubling their lead on 32 minutes, as Scott Davies’ free kick took a deflection off the Bracknell defensive wall and sailed into the goal.

It was 3-0 a matter of minutes later, as McElroy latched on to a ball over the top and buried the ball past Eacott again.

Bracknell went close to reducing the deficit before the half time whistle, but Vaughan’s free kick rattled against the post.

In the second half, the game developed into a somewhat turgid affair with Bracknell having the better of possession, with the break in play due to Abisogun’s injury perhaps having an impact.

Ben Harris won a free kick on the edge of the box and stepped up to take it himself, but this time the ball cannoned back off the crossbar.

The last chance of the game fell to Slough, with Minhas curling the ball into the top corner of the net from the edge of the box, a fantastic strike to delight the crowd of almost 400.

Slough’s final pre-season match sees them welcome a young Charlton Athletic side to Arbour Park on Tuesday evening (7.45pm).
