Slough Town 2-1 Reading Town

Date: 11-09-2012 | Competition: League

Mark Betts’ new look Allied Counties squad started their League campaign with victory over visitors Reading Town at Holloways Park.

Slough started well, however a sloppy pass in midfield by Leon Booth allowed Reading’s centre forward to tuck the ball into the bottom corner of the Slough net.

Slough picked themselves up and reacted quickly, creating chance after chance as the Reading keeper repeatedly kept the Slough strikers out.

Slough kept pushing and a good move down the right hand side saw Kopp deliver a ball into the middle which was met by the head of Gardiner. The Reading keeper could only parry the ball straight into the path of the onrushing Bradley to level the score.

With more confident, creative football from Slough, the Reading keeper was seen to pull off some great saves up to the break.

Slough had a good ten minutes at the beginning of the second half, carrying on where they left off in the first.

Reading got themselves back into game with Slough’s keeper Hawtree being called upon to pull off two good saves. Slough’s defence was being continually tested and they soaked up the Reading pressure.

But with 10 minutes remaining Slough got their second goal, and the winner, which saw a looping shot beat the keeper on his far post.

The management team were happy with the performance of their new young Rebels squad and the three points they had earned.
