Farnborough 4-0 Slough Town
Date: 26-09-2012 | Competition: League
Slough's bright start in the league came to a shuddering halt as they were beaten at Cherrywood Road by Farnborough’s youngsters.
Two goals in either half were reward for the home side who impressed on the night, but the Rebels were perhaps a touch unfortunate not to get on the scoresheet following some good spells in the game, but the better side on the night emerged as the victor.
Slough fell behind in the eighth minute when Ben Coverdale headed home at the far post following a header back across goal.
The second goal came as Slough failed to deal with a long free kick into the area and the ball fell to De St Croix who showed good composure to loft a side footed volley into an unguarded net from just outside the area.
Slough continued to work hard though and nearly got rewarded as Dickens robbed Myers of the ball just outside the Boro area but could not keep his effort under control and blazed well over the bar.
This lifted Slough as they began to come back into the game and Franklin was looking lively and interchanging between wings. The winger collected the ball just outside the Boro area and rounded the full back with his first touch but had a heavy second touch which allowed Bersey in the Boro goal to nab the ball as the half came to a close.
Slough were caught napping at the start of the second half and were dealt a hammer blow as Phillips fired home within seconds of the restart with Burgen unable to keep the ball out.
Slough's youth continued to work hard and continued to try and play neat football and nearly got on the scoresheet saw a shot cleared off the line before half time sub Brandon fired narrowly wide.
Boro hit the inside of the post from a Myers shot and a neat one touch passing move saw Slough release Bradley, but he could not find the taget. An ankle injury to Slough keeper Burgen saw him replaced by Hawtree. The Rebels keeper managed to hobble off to the side ofthe pitch with support, but was unfortunately stretchered to the changing room with a suspected Achillies problem.
Replacement keeper Hawtree was called into action to save a Lewis shot low down to his right before Slough cleared a shot off the line. Pressure was building up on the Rebels goal and the home side added a forth shortly before the final whistle. Hawtree again saved well from Isiakpona, but De St Croix reacted quickest to poke home the rebound and round off a good evening for the home side.
Whilst the scoreline was comprehensive, the young Rebels showed plenty of fight and some good football and will get results showing the same level of discipline and footballing intelligence if they continue to apply themselves in the same manner as they did tonight.
