Preview: Slough welcome Sholing in Emirates FA Cup

Slough start their FA Cup campaign in Second Round Qualifying at home to Wessex Premier League side Sholing.

You just never know when you start a cup run, where it's going to end... last year gave us so many incredible memories

Jon Underwood

We start our FA Cup campaign this season at home to Wessex Premier League side Sholing on Saturday, in what will be an extremely tough game and a potential banana skin.

They are a side which has been together a number of years, and has seen plenty of success including winning the FA Vase a few years back. Their manager Dave Diaper recently passed 1,000 competitive games as manager, which is a fantastic achievement and we congratulate him for this.

A lot has been made about the goalkeeping situation in the last 36 hours and 'that' tweet, however to confirm Jack Turner will be fit to start following a slight elbow injury sustained at Eastbourne. Despite the tweet going slightly viral and maybe being a slightly unorthodox approach to recruiting a keeper, it has been successful and we have tonight signed 22-year-old Matte Pierson who has been with Tooting & Mitcham in the Bostik League Division One South and Premier for the last three seasons, however is currently unattached and not cup-tied. He will come into the squad for Saturday.

We thank everyone for all their responses, and apologise that we have not been able to get back to each person.

In terms of squad news, we will still be missing Simon Dunn who is still out with his ankle injury, but is responding well to treatment. Mark Nisbet will serve a one game suspension, however he would not have been available anyway due to a family wedding. Nathan Smart however returns from his dual registration at Hartley Wintney.

There are no other concerns and we pick the following 17-man squad:

Jack Turner, Matte Pierson, Josh Jackman, Sean Fraser, George Wells, Guy Hollis, Sam Togwell, Nathan Smart, James Dobson, Louie Soares, Warren Harris, Scott Davies, Lee Togwell, Matty Stevens, Ben Harris, Chris Flood and Manny Williams.
