Slough Town Ladies started life in Division 3 East of the Thames Valley Counties Women's Football League with a 2-2 draw at Penn & Tylers Green, having come back from two goals down.
The first half was very even with Slough playing uphill and against the wind. The Rebels played on the counter-attack and looked dangerous with the Penn keeper making a few good saves.
Towards the end of the half, Penn pinned Slough back in their own half and a long shot aided by the wind flew into the top corner to give the hosts the lead.
Then, in the final minute of the half, Penn won a corner and scored with a low header to double their advantage.
Slough changed formation in the second half to 4-3-1-2. Instantly the game changed with Slough dominating possession and looking dangerous, breaking through numerous times and only good defending from Penn stopped the Rebels from scoring.
Twenty minutes into the second half Lucy Passfield played Shannon Daly clean through on goal, and she finished with a delicate chip over the keeper from 20 yards. Slough were back in it at 2-1.
Slough’s constant pressure was rewarded with the best goal of the game. After some neat build-up down the right, Charli Davies played the back to Lucy Passfield 25 yards out, and she hit a powerful half volley into the bottom left hand corner, bringing the score back to 2-2.
Slough kept pushing and had several more chances to seal victory but settled for an opening-day point. The Slough Ladies player of the match was Vicky Stanford.
