Slough Town's Walking Football team made a fantastic start to their season with a friendly tournament at Bisham Abbey on Sunday.
They played four games, winning two and drawing two. The goalscorers were Paul Stanton and Steve Shiel.
Walking Football has been played at Arbour Park since October 2018, initially with about seven or eight players plus a coach (Dennis O’Shea), but with increasing numbers of players and different coaches over the years.
Today, regular players number around 20+, meeting every Wednesday morning (11am – 12am) with players ranging in age from 23 upwards, though most of our regular players are of retirement age. Most recently, the club has officially sanctioned their first Walking Football team, which has joined the Thames Valley WF League and will play in a league against opposition once a month at Bisham Abbey National Sports Centre – and spectators are welcome.
Included amongst our squad of 15 is perhaps one of the oldest WF players in the entire country! Peter Fear, from Iver, will celebrate his 81st birthday in October. Peter is still very fit and active, and a regular member of the squad selected to play in the Thames Valley League.
Peter is no stranger to Slough Town FC, being a die-hard supporter and ex-player for the Slough Town team, appearing on 31 occasions between 1961 and 1963. Peter, along with his son Andy Fear make a formidable duo, who will no doubt contribute significantly to the team during the upcoming season.
If you want to improve your fitness and are around, or nearing retirement age (50+ years), come and join us at one of our regular weekly sessions on a Wednesday morning. We play on a 3G pitch, so plastic studs/moulds or Astro turf boots are required. Kick-off each week is 11am, so aim to arrive around 10:45am. The postcode for Arbour Park is SL2 5AY.
