Squad news: Ebbsfleet United

Neil Baker provides an update on the squad to face Ebbsfleet United, including news of two signings.

08/10/21

Firstly, we are pleased to announce the loan signing from Woking of Selim Saied, an 18-year-old attacking player who can play in a number of positions, writes Neil Baker.

He has impressed both me and Jon in recent games whilst he has been on loan at Farnborough, and we feel he is something very different to what we currently have at the club. He comes to the club initially for one month with a view to extending beyond that.

We have also signed 18-year-old forward Alfonso Tenconi. He has impressed us in recent weeks for the U19s and U23s, which has culminated in a week with the first team where he has done really well. He has a great work ethic, is quick and knows where the back of the net is. Unfortunately, he picked up a dead leg on Tuesday at Ashford and he will not be available tomorrow.

Guy Hollis is unavailable at present with work commitments due to his new business. We hope that things may ease in the next few weeks and that he will be back with us but will keep everyone updated as we know.

Obviously losing Ryan Bird and Guy (for now), means we are very short at centre half, especially as Christian Rowe who was with Havant & Waterlooville last season and with our U23s this season also picked up a hamstring injury on Saturday in our friendly. We have Togs and Nis who were excellent at Hungerford together, and other than that we have Lewis Pegg from the U23s who we think will be a very good player, but still needs to learn aspects of the game that he will come across in National League South football, so a dual registration will likely be the first step for him in the coming weeks.

We are actively looking to bring a centre half in; this is not proving easy, though I can assure everyone that this is a priority for us to help improve and bolster the squad.

In terms of tomorrow, we entertain one of the strongest teams in this league when Ebbsfleet United come to Arbour Park. They are a full-time team packed with EFL experience, and rightly are one of the favourites for the league.

We will be without Sean Fraser tomorrow, and Joe Lawal is still feeling a slight knock on his quad, so he will have a fitness test. Warren Harris managed to train this week and felt quite good; however, we need to make sure we do not rush him back. Finally, after his great debut last week Michael Edegbe will continue his development with Egham Town this week as we welcome Jonathan North back from his work commitment.

We will pick from the following 16 players:

Jonathan North, Josh Jackman, Freddie Grant, Gabe George, Mark Nisbet, Lee Togwell, Max Worsfold, Matthew Lench, Aaron Kuhl, George Hunt, Scott Davies, Eitel Goueth, Ben Harris, Selim Saied, Joseph Lawal and Tom Derry.
