Preview: Hampton & Richmond

A look ahead to tomorrow afternoon’s game at the Beveree.

31/12/23

The Rebels will be hoping to open the new year in style with an away game eagerly anticipated by supporters of both Hampton & Richmond and Slough, following an exhilarating 3-3 Boxing Day encounter, writes Freddie Gatrell.

This time, the Rebels aim to bring all three points back to Arbour Park. The upcoming clash between two of the league’s most in-form sides promises a tantalizing encounter, with Hampton & Richmond currently in 2nd place in the Vanarama National League South, boasting an impressive 43 points after 24 matches this season. The Beavers have lost only 5 times, drawn 7, and won the remaining 12. At home, they have been imperious, losing only once at Beveree Stadium this season in the league, against table-toppers Yeovil Town.

The Rebels, unlucky not to secure all three points in the first game after a second-half turnaround by the visitors, are motivated to go one step further and become only the second team this season to taste victory at the Beveree.

Hampton & Richmond's Manager, Mel Gwinnett, appointed at the beginning of 2023, has witnessed an impressive improvement in his side’s on-pitch performances. The 60-year-old began his coaching career at Exeter City, later moving to MK Dons, Stevenage, and Barnet before joining the Beavers. An experienced coach and manager over the last 17 years, Gwinnett aims for success with his side for the remainder of the season.

The undoubted danger man for Gwinnett’s men is their number 9, Ben Seymour. The 24-year-old academy product from Exeter City has experience at both EFL and National League levels, having played for Yeovil Town and Bath City. A regular goal-scorer, Seymour has found the net 13 times this campaign, including an important strike against the Rebels last time out, restoring parity in the game. Scott Davies’ men will need to be at their defensive best to prevent Seymour from adding to his goal tally in tomorrow’s game.

Kick-off is at 1pm, with live commentary available on Rebels Radio, social media updates across our platforms, and the match is also available to watch on National League TV.
