Preview: Tonbridge Angels

A look ahead to the challenge posed by tomorrow's opponents, Tonbridge Angels.

23/02/24

Next up for Slough Town is a trip to Kent to face Tonbridge Angels, with an opportunity for redemption after a crushing home defeat earlier in the season against the same opponents, writes Freddie Gatrell.

Since that result in early September, Slough’s form has drastically improved, with a resurgence in results including an FA Cup run and a leap up the National League South standings. For Tonbridge, their results have been fairly mixed since then, with the Kent-based outfit currently residing in 12th place. After 35 games played this season, the Angels have accumulated 45 points made up of 12 wins, nine draws, and 14 losses. Over the course of their last five games, the Angels have struggled, with three defeats, a draw, and a lone win against Chippenham Town, leaving them hungry to return to winning ways.

Manager of Tonbridge Angels, Jay Saunders, is a proven manager having spent numerous years at Maidstone United where he had brilliant success, overseeing three promotions in four seasons, with the Stones achieving National League status, which they maintained for two years before he was dismissed at the beginning of the 2018/19 campaign. Saunders will be eager to see his side return to winning ways in tomorrow’s clash.

The key man for tomorrow’s game, should he make an appearance, will surely be top scorer Jordan Greenidge who has netted nine times this campaign. The 6’4” forward began his senior career at Stoke City before moving on to Cypriot side Omonia Nicosia and Spanish side Club Deportivo Badajoz. He returned to the UK to join Newport County and is now plying his trade with the Angels. A powerful attacker with the potential to cause problems, the Rebels will need to be at their best to prevent Greenidge from capitalizing.

Kick-off is at 3pm tomorrow afternoon, live from Longmead Stadium. Live social media updates and commentary courtesy of Rebels Radio will be available for any fans unable to attend.
