Preview: Eastbourne Borough

A look ahead to tomorrow's home match against Eastbourne Borough.

22/03/24

Another return to Arbour Park tomorrow, where Slough Town will aim to return to winning ways against a relegation-threatened Eastbourne Borough and make it 20 games unbeaten at home, writes Freddie Gatrell.

The Sports currently reside in the relegation zone, sitting on 37 points after 38 games played. A win will be the sole aim for the Sussex-based side, who are three points from safety, despite Taunton Town in 20th place having three games in hand.

Regardless of the unfortunate league position, Eastbourne Borough’s last game against the Rebels was far from a walk in the park for Scott Davies’ men, with a second-half comeback leaving the game tied at 3-3, an 84th-minute Tyrese Dyce header salvaging a point in the end.

Over their last five games, The Sports have demonstrated the ability to pick up three points, with crucial wins against Taunton Town and Hemel Hempstead Town. Despite those two victories, they have failed to win their last two matches, losing to both Hampton & Richmond and Tonbridge Angels. Alongside their two wins and two losses, the Sussex outfit played out a 1-1 draw against the bottom side, Dover Athletic.

After the sacking of the previous manager, Mark Beard, The Sports had to find a suitable managerial replacement and appointed Adam Murray, a manager with excellent experience at varying levels of the game. Most recently, he was the manager of AFC Fylde where he won the National League North last season. His CV also features experience at Besiktas, Watford, and Cheltenham Town in League One.

Murray, 42, will be hopeful his side can pull off a remarkable turnaround in their remaining games and will be hoping new signing, Yahaya Bamba, can continue his hot form against the Rebels. Since joining from Isthmian Premier side, Cray Wanderers at the beginning of March, Bamba has hit the ground running, with a match-winning strike on his debut against Hemel Hempstead as well as a 92nd-minute strike to condemn Taunton Town to a 2-0 loss. The 24-year-old wide man will be hopeful he can give his side the boost needed for Saturday’s game.

The match will kick off at Arbour Park at 3 pm, with live updates available for fans unable to attend as well as live radio commentary courtesy of Rebels Radio.
