League sponsors Vanarama have been getting the fans’ perspective ahead of the new season.

League sponsors Vanarama have been getting the fans’ perspective ahead of the new season - which kicks off this Saturday. Slough Town supporter Scott McNeish tackles the season ahead.

Finally the new season is upon us - what have all you Slough fans got to look forward to?
We can look forward to another decent season. The bulk of the squad has stayed together, so there has been no upheaval of players. Another FA Cup run would be good, along with a play-off push.

It was a very comfortable first season in the National League South. Is the aim play-offs now?
I think the play-offs are definitely something to aim for. Since Bakes and Unders took over we’ve had a period of stability in each league before promotion was won. We’ve had a season in the National League South, so time to push on.

It’s not often you find joint managers in football any more - why does it work so well at the Rebels?
It works so well because since they were appointed they have had the backing of the chairman and the fans. Personally, I find them very approachable, happy to speak to the fans, and always open and honest as regards the results.

What’s been the best bit of business done over the past few months?
I think the two signings of Ryan Bird and Max Worsfold from Maidenhead United will be key. Birdy has Football League experience and is a local lad, and both he and Max have played at a higher level.

So what will be different this season from last?
The knowledge that we can do better this year and have nothing to fear. We very nearly snatched a play-off spot on the last day, so we can definitely do it this season.

Who will be your one to watch coming August 3?
Francis Amartey. Joined us in the second half of last season and he scored a few goals. Bags of talent, pace, and power.

Who are the other sides to watch out for and could be in the promotion mix?
Havant & Waterlooville after appointing Paul Doswell, Maidstone United will look to go straight back up and Billericay Town.

But who will be the league’s surprise package?
Two teams I think that could do well are Weymouth and Dorking Wanderers, especially with the momentum of promotion.

Which ground are you most looking forward to visiting?
Looking forward to visiting the Bob Lucas Stadium when Slough visit Weymouth. A terrific ground that I haven’t been to before but we always seem to get good results at!

And which game would you like to win more than any other?
Chippenham Town away. We lost 1-0 there last year, yet we played them off the park! Three points this season would make up for it.

You can pinch one opposition player - who is he?
Jake Robinson of Billericay Town. He’s a proven goalscorer at this level. Slough’s goals were more spread around the team last year, so to have a 20-plus goal scorer up front would be a positive.

Let’s end with a key question - where do you reckon your team will finish next season?
I would say seventh would be brilliant. Anything higher would be a bonus.
