Slough Ladies suffer narrow home defeat

Slough Town Ladies suffer a narrow home defeat against Penn & Tylers Green.

09/10/19

Slough Town Ladies 2-3 Penn & Tylers Green Ladies

Slough Ladies hosted Penn & Tylers Green in their first league game of the season on Sunday.

In a thrilling game, where the visitors came away with all three points, the goals came from both ends with exciting football for all to see.

Slough Ladies found themselves 3-0 down after just ten minutes, coming from two poor defensive errors and a very debatable penalty decision. The Rebels were rocked after this crazy start and were nervous in possession and misplacing their passes.

The Rebels began to settle down with twenty minutes on the clock and grew into the game, the midfield trio of Lucy Passfield, Sam McKenzie and Nikhita Sangha got a grip on the game and they started to create opportunities for the front three.

Alice Heady, Nicole Sandhu and Charli Davis all had good efforts, which forced the Penn keeper into numerous fine saves.

With thirty-five minutes gone Slough clawed a goal back, when Charli Davis chased down a through ball and pressured the Penn defender. The defender panicked and she took the ball, rounded the keeper and rolled the ball into the net from a tight angle, and the home side were back in it as they went into the break.

The goal gave Slough the determination to push for more, so Lucy Passfield found little pockets of space and the second goal looked on the cards.

Penn played a deep line and looked to hit Slough’s defenders on the counter, but the Rebels were controlling the game and read the opposition’s tactics.

Emma Gaywood broke up the Penn attack and fed the ball down the right wing to Charli Davis who flashed the ball across the box inches away from the on rushing strikers. Slough started to dominate the game, so the Penn defensive line became deep and were resigned to long clearances up field. Slough looked the better side.

With just fifteen minutes left, Charlotte Riddett played the ball out from the back into Sam McKenzie’s feet and she played the ball, first time, to Lucy Passfield. Nicole Sandhu made a great run down the right wing and Lucy found her with the through ball. Nicole cut inside the fullback and passed to Alice Heady and from 10 yards Alice buried her shot into the bottom left. It was now game on with the score 2-3.

The game became frantic, Slough pushed hard for the equalizer and the crowd’s increase in excitement seemed to push the Rebels, but unfortunately after several near misses we failed to score again.

After a dreadful start to the game, the Ladies pushed hard but came up short.
