Slough Town Community Team update

An update on the Slough Town Community Teams from manager Alan Meredith.

15/12/22

Last Sunday our team won through the Hampshire FA’s First Round of the South-East Regional 11 v 11 Disability Cup, played at Basingstoke Town FC.

We won three games without conceding a goal, including a 3-0 victory against a team from Southampton that secured our group progression.

We had several players unavailable, but they will struggle to win back a starting place as everyone who played here gave a near faultless performance, receiving plaudits from the opposition, officials and spectators alike.

We moved the ball quickly, whilst keeping our shape and looking comfortable when not in possession and pressed with intent.

We now look forward to the draw for the next round, as on the only previous occasion we qualified for the knockout stages the competition was cancelled due to Covid-19.

The Community Teams enter our winter break top of the BOBi Championship League, albeit by just two points from Milton Keynes after 18 games, whilst our second team sit mid-table in Division One. Last summer our teams won Divisions One and Two and are both adjusting to the higher standards and consistency required at the next level.

We have experienced many changes over the past 18 months but have assembled a talented and exciting young squad of around 26 players, and our challenge is to get the best out of them for the different competition formats.

Congratulations to my fellow coach, Alex Efthimiou and his wife Kizzy, on the birth of their daughter Morello Mary.

Finally, a massive thanks as always to our bus driver, Mark Clements and Slough Borough Council for the bus.
