Community team end of season update

An update from Community team manager Alan Meredith.

23/07/23

We finished a very long and challenging season on a high note by finishing runners-up in the South East Regional Disability football finals held last week at Dorking Wanderers' ground.

This was also the first time we had reached the finals of any 11-a-side competition. We lost to the eventual winners Sutton United 0-1, to a particularly unlucky strike that deceived our keeper, but having drawn 1-1 with our regular foes MK Dons, and had a goalless draw with a Sussex representative team, the absolute highlight of the day was Slough Town beating Chelsea 2-0. All three of our goals were scored by Mohib Farhan but everyone played their part in some superb performances against opposition that play this format regularly.

As a reward for our efforts this season we are delighted to have been invited to participate in the disability 11-a-side home counties league next season, with teams from London, Surrey, Sussex, Hampshire, Berks & Bucks and Hertfordshire, and this is a wonderful achievement by all involved.

In the BOBi 7-a-side leagues we finished runners-up in the Championship division to MK Warriors, who only lost 2 games in 34, which were both against Slough. However, injuries (4 different goalkeepers), player availability and transport issues caused us problems. The second team held their own in League 1 but were short of players on occasion.

After a short summer break we will plan for the new campaign with some changes in mind to help things run smoother, and enable us to best compete in the different formats. New players are always welcome.
