Preview: Weymouth

A look ahead to tomorrow's National League South clash at Arbour Park.

06/10/23

A National League South match against 18th-placed Weymouth is next up on Slough Town's agenda after a week focusing on the Emirates FA Cup against Salisbury, writes Freddie Gatrell.

Saturday's fixture will be a scintillating prospect for fans watching at Arbour Park, as Scott Davies' men will be looking to continue their 6-game unbeaten run, with the previous match against Salisbury ending in a comfortable victory for the Rebels, putting the side in good stead for tomorrow's matchday.

Weymouth have had a mixed start to their season with 11 points accumulated so far, made up of 3 wins, 2 draws, and 5 losses, sitting 1 point and 1 place above the Rebels. Over the last 5 games, the Terras have struggled, most recently losing in the Emirates FA Cup against Bath City, as well as drawing their previous fixture against 8th-placed Chippenham Town. With this in mind, the Dorset-based outfit will be eager to turn around their form and pick up a much-needed victory against the Rebels.

Weymouth's manager, Bobby Wilkinson, will be eager to improve his side's fortunes after the club's relegation from the National League at the end of the 2021/22 season, followed by a successful battle against relegation last season. Wilkinson is an experienced manager and former player who played at both Reading and Fulham before seeing his career cut short due to injury. As a manager, he has impressive experience, learning from the likes of Brendan Rodgers and Brian McDermott. His previous Bracknell Town side was a fearsome outfit over several campaigns, with the highlight of his time there being when he led the side to a triumphant league victory during the 2021/22 season. His team, featuring current Rebels, Dan Bayliss and Temi Eweka, won their division by 20 points, conceding just 12 goals all season. Wilkinson will hope he can reach similar levels with the Terras.

Wilkinson will be reliant on his talented attacking youngster, Ezio Touray, who has recently joined the Terras on loan from Watford and has impressed with his performances so far this season, recording more goals than anyone at the club, with 3 goals in just 2 games in the National League South so far. The talented 20-year-old Italian could prove to be a thorn in the side of the Slough Town defence and will have to be closely watched by the Rebels' defence.
