This Saturday (11 May), Slough Town Football Club is set to host a charity football match at Arbour Park, demonstrating the club's ongoing commitment to fostering community relationships.
Teaming up with Thames Valley Police (TVP), Berks & Bucks FA, and Slough Borough Council (SBC) Community Detached Youth Team, we aim to raise funds for Frimley Health Charity. The match will feature two teams: one comprising TVP members and some Slough Town Juniors coaches, and the other consisting of representatives from various community groups collaborating with the Slough Detached Team. This 11-a-side match forms part of TVP's community engagement initiative.
Gates will open at 12:30 pm, with kick-off scheduled for 1:30 pm. Attendees can enjoy refreshments from the bar and a selection of food options. Entry on the day will be by donation to Frimley Health Charity.
Emergency vehicles will be present at the ground, and all three collaborating groups will have informational stalls available.
PC Abbi Ellis, representing TVP, first approached the club about the event and expressed excitement about the event, commenting: “TVP is thrilled for this chance to collaborate and connect with the local community in support of a deserving local charity, aiming to raise funds together.”
Aqeel Akram, Community Development Officer at SBC added: “Slough Borough Council's Community Detached Youth Work Team is delighted to support this initiative, bringing the community together with TVP through the beautiful game. It is an opportunity for all to build bridges, connect, build relationships and work for the betterment of Slough.”
The Community Detached Youth Team manager, Tony Rawlings also highlighted the importance of regular initiatives like this and encouraged more partners to participate.
Ade Gomm, Community Manager at Slough Town FC, added: “This is a fantastic opportunity to work with our partners as we try to break down the barriers between the police and young people. Initiatives like these demonstrate that by working together - and using football as a positive - we can highlight the amount of good going on in the town.”
