We can confirm that Johnny Goddard has decided to leave the club to take an offer at a full-time club.
Johnny joined the club from St Albans City two years ago and scored six times in 44 appearances during the 2022/23 season. He followed this up with a phenomenal 2023/24 campaign which saw him score 19 goals in 52 appearances, earning him the Golden Boot award for a second consecutive season and international recognition with an England C cap earlier this month.
Scott Davies had the following to say on Johnny’s departure: “It’s a real shame to lose Johnny. Last season he was absolutely brilliant for us and played an important part in chipping in with goals and assists throughout the campaign. Not only that, his experience and leadership within the changing room was greatly appreciated too.
“Yet again though, it just shows how well the group performed now that another full-time club has come calling for one of our players. The opportunity was too good to turn down for Johnny, especially with his wife currently on maternity leave. Johnny made it clear to me that it’s been a difficult decision, but the fact that this move will help him and his young family over the next year was what swayed his decision.
“Of course, we are all gutted to lose JG but we thank him for what he’s given all of us during his time at the football club and we wish him and his family well.”
