Match Information: Basingstoke Town (A)
Basingstoke Town v Slough Town
Friday 18 July
Kick-off: 7.45pm
Venue: Winklebury Football Complex
Tonight we head to Winklebury for a special occasion, as Basingstoke Town host Slough Town in a testimonial match for former midfielder Simon Dunn – a player whose commitment and character have left a lasting mark on both clubs.
Slough Town played a central part in Dunn’s journey, with the midfielder featuring 139 times between 2016 and 2019. Along the way, Simon was part of the squad which won promotion to National League South, won the Berks & Bucks FA Senior Cup and scooped individual honours.
The Rebels arrive with a strong first team squad for our fifth pre-season outing, following a 3-2 win against Brentford B on Tuesday evening.
The last meeting between the sides came in 2018, a 4-1 win for Slough, in which Dunn was among the scorers. Tonight, he will lead the side out and start the first half, alongside Nathan Smart, another long-serving figure in both clubs’ recent history.
Supporters are encouraged to arrive early and head into the Clubhouse, where at 7.00pm, Simon Dunn will take part in a live Q&A. Expect memories, humour, and no shortage of emotion. As kick-off approaches, let’s give Simon the send-off he deserves – a guard of honour, a wall of sound, and full voice from two grateful clubs.
