BBFA Women's Trophy
Slough Town Ladies progressed into the quarter-finals of the Berks & Bucks FA Women’s Trophy with this emphatic victory over Wantage Town.

The Ladies welcomes Wantage to Arbour Park for this second round tie and started confidently, moving the ball around quickly, keeping possession and making Wantage chase the ball. For all of Slough’s possession they found chances hard to come by, as Wantage were well organised and very physical. These tactics kept the chances down to just a few.

With Slough camped in the Wantage half the deadline was eventually broken 30 minutes into the game. Harlie played the ball into Alice’s feet, who turned and tried to play a through ball into Abi’s path. The Wantage defender stopped the through ball, but it still fell into Abi’s path, she danced around two defenders and then buried her shot from 12 yards out. 1-0 Slough.

With a few minutes to go in the first half, a Wantage long ball caused panic, the Wantage forwards pressed the Slough defence, won possession and then scored a very good goal through a shot placed in the top right corner leaving Ellie with no chance in goal and making it 1-1 at half time.

In the second half Slough came out a lot more determined - the passing was good, the movement was even better, Slough were starting to exert their dominance over Wantage.

Five minutes into the second half and after successive corners, Alice whipped one into the edge of the six yard box. Lauren’s movement was good, and she rose high to score a great header into the bottom right hand corner, making it 2-1 Slough.

Fifty minutes in, Slough made two changes, with Emma coming on for Shannon and Jessica for Harlie.

Slough were totally in control of the game, and soon made it 3-1. Bonnie played a superb through ball for Abi to run on to, she outmuscled the centre back and just beat the onrushing keeper to score with a lovely, lobbed shot.

Nikhita was running the Wantage left back ragged, and after another marauding run down the right wing she crossed the ball into the box. Emma played the ball back to Lauren who smashed the ball high into the net from 10 yards out. 4-1 Slough.

On 65 minutes Slough made two further changes - Shannon for Alice and Harlie for Nellie.

Lauren completed her hat-trick with another superb header, this time from Nicole’s flighted corner to the back post and Lauren rushed in and powered it past the Wantage keeper to make it 5-1.

After some great build up play, which involved every member of the Slough team, this great move was finished off with Shannon putting Abi through on goal and from outside the box Abi powered home her shot to also secure her hat-trick.

With ten minutes left, two further changes for Slough saw Alice replace Abi and Nellie replace Nikhita.

Nicole rounded off a great performance with a neat finish from inside the penalty box after being put through by Lucy Thompson, making the final score 7-1.

Wantage battled hard and made it very difficult in the first half, but overall this was a fantastic performance from Slough Ladies, the passing and movement going forward was exceptional from all, probably the best it’s been all season.
