Slough Town made it two wins from two in pre-season with a 3-1 victory over Southall at Arbour Park, as more senior players were introduced into the squad following Friday’s win over Virginia Water.
The Rebels started brightly and took the lead after just 12 minutes, with Tyrique Clarke calmly placing a low shot into the bottom-left corner after a well-worked move in the final third.
Southall found a way back into the game on 23 minutes, capitalising on a free-kick delivery that was inadvertently turned into his own net by Slough defender Tyrese Dyce.
Undeterred, the home side regained the lead before the break. This time it was Johnny Goddard who found the target, curling home from inside the box after being picked out by Dyce, making amends for the earlier own goal.
Goddard almost added a second just before half time with a fine effort from distance which clipped the top of the crossbar. Slough went into the interval 2-1 up, having shown positive attacking intent throughout.
As with Friday’s game, the second half brought a full change of XI, with younger talents taking to the field to get further valuable minutes.
Dan Roth impressed with an ambitious volley over the bar, while Wiktor Makowski twice went close to opening his account, denied on both occasions by sharp saves from the Southall goalkeeper.
The third and final goal came with six minutes to play, and it was a well-deserved moment for Makowski. Played through on goal by Nnaemeka Anyanwu, the young striker kept his composure and lifted the ball over the onrushing keeper for his first goal in Slough colours.
It was another positive night for Scott Davies’ squad, with a blend of experience and emerging talent continuing to build momentum ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
Next up for the Rebels is a trip to Flackwell Heath this Saturday afternoon.
