Slough Town produced an impressive second-half comeback to claim a 3-2 victory over Brentford B at Arbour Park, scoring twice in two minutes to overturn a deficit in their latest pre-season runout.
Scott Davies named a strong starting XI for the club’s fourth fixture of the summer, with a number of new signings involved alongside several trialists and development squad players. With the National League South opener now less than a month away, Davies continues to shape his squad ahead of the big kick-off on August 9.
It was the visitors who struck first, taking the lead in just the fourth minute. Despite the early setback, Slough responded well and grew into the game, eventually drawing level on 24 minutes. Tyrese Dyce did well down the left, beating his man before delivering a pinpoint cross which Johnny Goddard met with a composed finish past the Brentford keeper.
Goddard almost had a second shortly afterwards, only to be denied by the keeper. The Rebels dominated the final stages of the first half, though there was a setback as Tarik Gidaree was forced off with an injury, replaced by Dan Roth.
There were further chances before the break — including a free-kick from Davies that deflected into Roth’s path, whose follow-up went over — and Trialist A saw a one-on-one opportunity saved after opting for a delicate chip over the goalkeeper.
Wiktor Makowski came on at half-time and was straight into the action, firing into the side netting within a minute of the restart. Slough thought they had taken the lead on 55 minutes when a rebound off the bar was bundled in, but the goal was ruled out for handball.
Brentford B then regained the lead shortly before the hour, but Slough’s response was immediate and emphatic.
Scott Davies rattled the woodwork from a low free-kick before Trialist B levelled the scores, capitalising on a defensive error with just over 20 minutes to go. Just two minutes later, the turnaround was complete as Roth powered in a low strike to make it 3-2.
Roth nearly added a second late on, directing an effort onto the crossbar in the 81st minute, but the Rebels had already done enough to secure the win in what proved to be another encouraging outing.
